Le rêve + l'antenne


In the city of Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, a young AIDS orphan (Modibo) – whose little sister (Sinata) suffers from an illness that local doctors are having difficulty diagnosing – discovers on a TV news programme that, in his country, there are antennas that make it possible to link local medical facilities with specialists around the world. Unfortunately, a power cut prevents him from finding out exactly where this connection equipment is located.

The following night, Modibo dreams, in the form of a cartoon, that a European man (hybrid character, half-witchdoctor/half-Western doctor) teleports his sister to Switzerland using a magic antenna, and cures her.

When he wakes up, he holds onto the hope of finding the extraordinary antenna. Then, during a visit to the local dispensary for a medical check-up, he recognises it. He later watches, in amazement, the videoconference consultation between the hospital in Geneva and the Bobo Dioulasso dispensary. That day, he realises that the antenna has other powers too.

His little sister, meanwhile, wonders whether ‘the people in the tele’ might one day pass some chocolate to her directly through the screen.

A short film on the DSF pilot projects in Burkina Faso….

This film is inspired by the DSF field action in Bobo Dioulasso at the REVS+ association where a satellite communication system was installed. The film illustrates a medical consultation by video-conference between the Geneva Hospital (HUG) and the Bobo Dioulasso clinic. The production team is formed by burkinabé professionals only, while the producer, Ms Krysia Dowmont, is Swiss.

The sponsors will be able to benefit from a gratifying image and an international visibility. This short film will be presented on numerous occasions around the world (TV, festivals, conferences, as well as Government representatives) in order to raise the awareness of political and economic leaders to contribute financially to the reduction of the digital divide.

20 % of the financing is secured at 13 December 2006, amounting to CHF 15'000.00
