Appeal to local authorities, public institutions and businesses: Support digital solidarity! (This computer equipment proposal form is designed to be completed online) When you upgrade your computers, why not give the old ones to people who really need them The Internet is an open book to the world that offers tremendous opportunities to access the information society and knowledge, and take part in globalisation. Information and communication technologies are an indispensable tool for taking advantage of these opportunities. They considerably improve access to health, education, cultural diversity and agricultural techniques. These technologies are also a powerful tool for protecting the environment, tackling global warming, developing trade, good governance, and so on. The task of the Global Digital Solidarity Fund (DSF) – the only international organisation entirely dedicated to reducing the digital divide – is to gather the necessary resources to facilitate access to information and communication technologies. Based in Geneva, the DSF has been fully recognised by the United Nations General Assembly, the African Union, the European Union and all developing countries, as well as by numerous other international institutions (OIF, EU, ITU, OIC, OCI, NAM, etc.). Since its creation, the DSF has given rise to great hopes. We continually receive funding requests for projects designed to expand access to information and communication technologies. It is in this context that the DSF devised the concept of a voluntary contribution: the “1% digital solidarity” principle. It is this same concern that has prompted us to appeal to all organisations and institutions to donate any good quality computer equipment they have, to those who most need it in developing countries. In order to meet this huge demand, we would like to appeal to your goodwill to help enable every child, every pupil, every student, every teacher, every doctor, every farmer and every citizen of the world to have access to information and communication technologies. We need computer hardware (computers, printers, scanners, inverters, etc.) that:
The DSF guarantees that this equipment will be put to good use and recycled once it reaches the end of its useful life.
