At the Santo Domingo Summit, twenty Latin American States reaffirm their support for the Global Digital Solidarity Fund.
M eeting in Santo Domingo on 7 March 2008 for its 20th Summit, the Rio Group appealed to developed countries to support the DSF.
In the final Declaration of the Summit, the heads of state and government “recognised the creation of the Global Digital Solidarity Fund (DSF) as an innovative financing mechanism for development and underlined the importance of the 1% digital solidarity principle, with the objective of improving the access of our populations to the information and knowledge society. They invited developed countries to share the goal of an equitable information society, based on solidarity.”
The States who signed the Santo Domingo Declaration of the Rio Group Summit are: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela.
