It is our pleasure to inform you of the first “Summit of cities and local governments of the Mediterranean: innovative financing for the Mediterranean digital space”, which will take place in Malaga, Spain, on 2 and 3 October 2008.

This Summit, organised by Malaga City Council in its capacity as a founding member of the Global Digital Solidarity Fund, will bring together some 500 local and national policy-makers from the Mediterranean basin, and representatives of international organisations, civil society and the private sector.

Supported by the Spanish government and the Union for the Mediterranean, the Summit aims at achieving broad adoption by Mediterranean cities of the innovative financing mechanism proposed by the Global Digital Solidarity Fund to reduce the digital divide.

The role of local stakeholders in the Mediterranean digital space will be examined, as will opportunities for partnerships between the northern and southern Mediterranean for the implementation of projects on the ground.
